I was asked to build a piece of furniture for the Flagstaff Arboretum Annual Soiree 2013 and this is the result. The Arboretum has spectacular views of the peaks where summer storms can be seen coming at a long distance. I used the traditional style of a drop-leaf table and adapted it to fit my vision of a summer storm. In the closed position it represents the swelling thunderheads rising over the peaks and in the expanded position is represents the thunderheads spreading out over the sky. The legs echo the lightning that comes with the thunder and the dark walnut reflects the dark skies.
