Walnut Writing Table

A single slab of Oregon walnut forms the top of this table. The edge of the table was left untrimmed (after the bark was removed), creating a natural or "live" edge. The apron is veneered in spectacular figured sapele while the legs are from the same walnut as the top. The top has a natural split or "check" that the client wanted kept in, so the check is kept from spreading by the insertion of butterfly wedges made of karri, an Austrialian eucalyptus.
